COLLEGE WELDING PROGRAM CERTIFIED SHORTAGE IN FIELD BENEFITS STUDENTS.

< VALENCIA -- The American Welding Society The American Welding Society (AWS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the science, technology, and application of welding and allied joining and cutting processes, including brazing, soldering, and thermal spraying.  has recognized College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  with national accreditation.

In addition, the field will see more positions open in the next 10 years as a large number of today's welders retire.

Baber said the testing allows students to become certified in different types of welding and opens more doors to employment.

``Our students can now go anywhere in the world to get work and advance their careers,'' he said.

Starting this month, the school is offering new courses in pipe welding. The classes join a host of other existing courses in welding technology, metal sculpturing and weld inspecting.

To qualify for the certified program, the college's Welding Technology Department passed an extensive audit and accreditation process, Baber said.

Fall classes at College of the Canyons begin Aug. 28.
