COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: PEPPERDINE FILLS OUT NCAA TOURNAMENT.

Pepperdine was selected by the NCAA NCAA

National Collegiate Athletic Association
 men's volleyball committee on Sunday to fill the lone at-large berth to the four-team national championship tournament.

 - which defeated Pepperdine in Saturday's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation is a college athletic conference whose member teams are located in the western United States. The conference participates in the NCAA's Division I.  championship match - Midwest Region champ Ohio State and Penn State, winners of the East Region.

The NCAA Tournament is Thursday and Saturday at Fort Wayne, Ind. UCLA, ranked No. 3 in the nation last week, plays No. 15 Penn State in Thursday's first semifinal. Ohio State, ranked No. 4, and Pepperdine, ranked No. 2, meet in the second match.

The Bruins were the surprise winners of the MPSF MPSF Mountain Pacific Sports Federation  title, which figured to be a battle between Long Beach State, USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  and Pepperdine. The 49ers and Trojans had been ranked No. 1 in the country for most of the season, but both lost in the MPSF tournament.

The Bruins are going for their 18th men's volleyball national championship, which started in 1970. Pepperdine has won four volleyball titles, most recently in 1992.
