According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation. Employee Training Institute has received state approval of a $436,000 contract to help local employers provide critical skills for their workers. The contract with California's Employment Training Panel will help the Valencia college subsidize sub·si·dize tr.v. sub·si·dized, sub·si·diz·ing, sub·si·diz·es 1. To assist or support with a subsidy. 2. To secure the assistance of by granting a subsidy. training for nearly 600 workers over the next two years. The institute provides training for local industry in such areas as cutting waste, reducing the amount of money tied up in work in progress; reducing the number of items requiring rework re·work tr.v. re·worked, re·work·ing, re·works 1. The training focuses on skills improvement, such as training on specific machinery, or on increasing the knowledge base of trainees through improved leadership skills and teaching employees about strategic business planning. Basic knowledge skills are also taught in Electricity for Maintenance Workers and other similar courses. A key element of training provided by the Employee Training Institute is that it customizes training to the needs of businesses. The programs works with Valencia Industrial Association members to identify the broad range of local industry training needs. Institute representatives meet with management, supervisors and employees of the businesses requesting training and then crafts training specifically to address those needs.
