The awards will total more than $8 million in 2004, and recipients who have successful projects will be given the opportunity to apply for an additional $2 million in 2005, the San Jose-based company said. Assistance from the company also involves a professional development program that includes customized learning opportunities, expert mentoring and participation in an online learning community to support teachers' use of technology. To complement HP's award, Microsoft will donate Microsoft Office 2003 and OneNote 2003 software for use by the grant project's principal investigator.
