The plan for the pounds 10m academy, which would replace Anfield and Breckfield comprehensives, has already angered parents objecting to the closure of the two schools and a move to one site.

It had originally been thought the academy would be built on the old Breckfield site in Hamilton Road, Everton.

Almost 100 protesters turned up at public meeting last night when a campaign was launched to fight the scheme.

The Dixie Dean playing fields, also known as Campfield,is a public park, and is used by local football teams.
