The Cardinal claimed the title for the 12th time since the current team format was instituted in 1977 and ended the Bruins' hopes of an undefeated season.

After the Bruins captured the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead, Stanford rallied to win at Nos. 3-6 singles. The Cardinal's Ryan Wolters topped Eric Taino Eric Taino (born March 18, 1975 in Jersey City, New Jersey) is a tennis player who represents the Philippines. He started a professional career in 1997. Before turning pro, he played for the UCLA Bruins along with fellow pros Justin Gimelstob and Kevin Kim.  2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the decisive match, No. 3 singles.

Jim Thomas topped Heath Montgomery 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 at No. 4 singles to put the Cardinal within one match of the title, and Wolters came through less than five minutes later.

Florida women win: Top-seeded Florida capped a perfect season Tuesday with a 5-2 victory over second-seeded Stanford to capture the NCAA Division I women's tennis championship in Tallahassee, Fla.

The Gators, previously 0-3 against Stanford in the NCAA tournament, won their only other championship in 1992 with a perfect season.
