COLLEGE SOCCER NOTEBOOK: UCLA MEN DROP TO 17TH AFTER SLOW START.

After being ranked first in the nation in the preseason polls, the winless UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles

 men's soccer teamhas plummeted to 17th in the NSCAA/adidas rankings.

 said. "We're disappointed but not surprised... the matches were physical and we played three very tough teams."

The Bruins play their first home games this weekend and face No. 12 Ohio State at 7 p.m. tonight and Penn State at 2 p.m. Sunday at Drake Stadium.

"They cant wait," Salcedo said of his players. "Every Thursday or Friday we've been on the road so the guys will get to sleep in their own beds and be in a comfortable environment and surroundings."

Sophomore goalkeeper Brian Perk was named Pac-10 Player of the Week after recording a shutout in a 0-0 tie against Creighton.

Perk's Pac-10 honor was also shared on the women's side by UCLA senior Danesha Adams. Adams tallied 10 points in two games last weekend as the Bruins went 2-0 in their own tournament.

The No. 6 Bruins play a couple in-state road games as they face San Diego at 7:30p.m. tonight and Cal-State Northridge at 3 p.m. Sunday.

USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  ready to play host: The No. 24 Lady Trojans (3-1) host the USC Tournament this weekend and will play Georgia today and Nebraska Sunday.

The freshman have made their mark so far as Meghan Ohai leads the team in goals with three while Ashli Sandoval is the USC's assist leader with three.

Waves searching for firsts: The Waves women's team have yet to put the ball behind the opponent's goalkeeper this season and hope to end that streak this weekend as it starts a seven-game homestand. The Waves (0-3-1) play UNLV UNLV University of Nevada, Las Vegas  today and Denver Sunday.

Northridge update: The Matadors women's team hosts Baylor and UCLA this weekend and will have to go through either of them on their quest for their first victory of the season.

The men (1-1-1) hope what happens in Las Vegas will be a pair of wins as they clash with UNLV and Cleveland State this weekend.

 update: This weekend's away trip will be crucial for the LMU men as they face ranked opponents in No. 16 Creighton and No. 24 St. Louis. Goalkeeper Patrick Lane has started to earn his keep after posting his first collegiate shutout against No. 17 New Mexico last weekend.

The LMU women will also host their own tournament this weekend and will face Lamar and Michigan.
