(10-2-6), which beat Cal State Fullerton 1-0 in the other semifinal.

The defeat brought a likely end to the finest season in the Matadors' 10-year history. NCAA Tournament pairings will be announced Monday, and the winner of Sunday's final will claim the Big West's only certain berth.

``We achieved a lot this season,'' CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  coach Terry Davila said. ``We were two games away (from an automatic NCAA NCAA

berth). Overall, this was a successful season.''

The Matadors (12-6-1), in Davila's first season as women's head coach, won more games than it had in the previous two seasons combined.

Oregon State transfer Brianna Monka scored from a Kaitlyn Kelly assist to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 72nd minute. Kelly was disruptive throughout the match, although the Matadors struggles offensively.

The freshman from Thousand Oaks High created a turnover at midfield in the 86th minute and pushed the ball forward, avoiding several Gauchos defenders before shooting. UC Santa Barbara goalkeeper Jamie Considine made the save, but Kristy Krohn pounced on the rebound and scored CSUN's second goal.

``The loss is disappointing, but in the big picture of things, we're happy,'' CSUN assistant coach Ivan Alzate said. ``We look at the season as a positive. We're only going to get better. Our future is bright.''
