Coming off a bye week because of final exams, the third-ranked volleyball team plays host to a major two-match series against second-ranked Hawaii Thursday and Friday.

Both matches begin at 7 p.m. at Pauley Pavilion Edwin W. Pauley Pavilion, informally and commonly known as Pauley Pavilion, is an indoor arena located on the campus of UCLA in Los Angeles, California. It is home to the UCLA Bruins men's and women's basketball teams. The men's and women's volleyball teams also play here. .

Before the Friday match, the school will retire the number of former All-American Steve Salmons, who won two national titles with the Bruins and an Olympic gold medal in 1984. Salmons was inducted into the UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles

The Bruins have been off since a March 17 victory over Long Beach State. UCLA defeated Hawaii in five games on Jan. 19 in the teams' only previous meeting this season.

The Trojans' men's tennis team took an 11-3 record into this week, but it faces the biggest test of its season Friday when they play at UCLA at 1:30 p.m.

The top-ranked Bruins defeated USC 5-2 on Feb. 28 and the Bruins have won the teams' last five meetings. UCLA also has a 84-74 all-time record against the Trojans.

USC is coming off a 7-0 victory over Princeton last Thursday. The Trojans are No. 22 in the country and their best singles player, Andrew Park, is No. 18.

CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  

The No. 13 men's volleyball team won eight of its 10 nonconference matches, but the Matadors have struggled in tough Mountain Pacific Sports Federation The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation is a college athletic conference whose member teams are located in the western United States. The conference participates in the NCAA's Division I.  play.

The Matadors take a 2-10 MPSF MPSF Mountain Pacific Sports Federation  record into Friday's home match against UC San Diego (7 p.m.). CSUN has not played a conference match since March 10, but in between, the Matadors have won nonconference matches against Concordia, Rutgers, Quincy and La Verne.

CSUN has been led by junior outside hitter Eckhard Walker (3.96 kills per game) and sophomore outside hitter Joe Nargi (3.77), formerly of Taft High in Woodland Hills.

PEPPERDINE

The men's volleyball team, which had dropped to No. 7 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association The American Volleyball Coaches Association aka (AVCA) is an organization, incorporated as a private non-profit educational corporation in 1981, as the Collegiate Volleyball Coaches Association.  poll after a three-match losing streak earlier this month, will try to finish strong despite a tough late-season schedule.

The Waves beat USC in five games last week and hosted UC San Diego on Tuesday, but Pepperdine must finish with road matches against USC and Long Beach State next week.

LOYOLA MARYMOUNT

The women's tennis team continues a busy week today with a match at USC at 1:30 p.m. The Lions also traveled to UCLA on Tuesday and play host to Brown on Friday at 1:30 p.m.

The Lions, who took a 6-5 record into the match against the Bruins, have had the most success with their middle singles players.

 is just 5-6 at the first singles position but is 8-3 at third singles and 7-4 at positions No. 2, 4 and 5. Andrea Lord is 1-3 as the No. 1 singles player but is 6-1 when dropped lower in the lineup.

Penka Fileva (7-2) and Angelina Zdorovytska (6-2) have been the Lions' most successful singles players.
