COLLEGE ROUNDUP: USC BEATS UCLA IN VOLLEYBALL.

The USC women's volleyball team, ranked No. 3 in the nation, won its first match at UCLA in three years Friday night with a come-from-behind victory over the fifth-ranked Bruins 25-30, 28-30, 30-21, 30-22, 15-11.

Sophomore outside hitter April Ross led the Trojans (14-1, 8-0 in Pacific-10 Conference) with 21 kills and 11 digs, and freshman outside hitter Alicia Robinson added 20 kills and eight assisted blocks. Four of Robinson's blocks came in the fourth game, teaming with Katie Olsovsky, who finished with eight blocks.

The Bruins (10-4, 5-3) played without Kristee Porter, the conference's all-time kill leader, who was declared ineligible before the game.

According to UCLA associate athletic director Betsy Stephenson, Porter accepted items from a friend of three years who recently became a part-time occupant at Porter's apartment. Stephenson said NCAA rules prohibit student-athletes from receiving benefits unless the relationship predates the student-athletes' status as a prospect.

In men's soccer:

--Cal St. Fullerton 3, CSUN 0: Hector Orellana had a goal and an assist to lead the Titans (5-5-1, 3-1) to victory over the Matadors (6-3-1, 1-1) in a Big West Conference game at Titan Field in Fullerton.

Orellana's goal came in the 20th minute of the second half on a free kick just outside the goal box and broke a scoreless tie.

The goal seemed to rattle the Matadors' defense, which slid into sloppy play the rest of the half.

The Titans didn't take advantage until a corner kick 11 minutes later. CSUN failed to clear the ball and Fullerton midfielder Jason Clifford fired in a shot from 25 yards.

Two minutes later, Orellana led teammate Brent Whitfield with a pass for a breakaway in front of the goal, which he converted for the final score.
