Adrian Mendoza had three hits, including his third home run of the season, and Nevin Patrick had two RBI to lead the Cal State Northridge baseball team past South Alabama 6-5 Saturday in the second game of a three-game series at Mobile, Ala.

Eric Horvat and Darren Dyt added doubles for the Matadors (5-5), who overcame a 5-2 Jaguars lead with four runs in the top of the eighth.

Jeff Martin got the win in relief. He worked one inning after starter Tim Baron went six, Brad Foss struck out two over the last two innings to earn his second save.

Tom Whitehurst doubled twice for South Alabama (1-1).

Loyola Marymount 5, Nevada 4: Kevin Hook's one-out seventh-inning single scored Kevin Gustorf with the winning run for the Lions (3-3) in the first game of a rain-suspended doubleheader at LMU.

Hook had two of the Lions' seven hits in support of starter Billy Traber and Jeff Cecchin, who worked the final inning for the win.

Matt Ortiz homered, Justin Martin singled and doubled, and Chris Kohl and Glen Carson both doubled for Nevada (2-2).

The second game was suspended because of rain with Nevada leading 12-5 in the middle of the ninth. It will be resumed today at 1 p.m. at LMU, followed by the third game of the series.

UCLA 10, Georgia Tech 9: Shortstop Chase Utley had three hits and four RBI, and designated hitter Brett Nista had two hits and drove in three runs to help the visiting Bruins outlast the Yellowjackets at Atlanta.

The UCLA win evened the series at 1-1 while doing little to slow a Georgia Tech offense that has totaled 25 runs and 29 hits in the two games. Derik Goffena led the Yellowjackets (1-1) with four hits and six RBI. Starter Chad Cislak (2-1) got the win for the Bruins (2-4), working five innings and getting four innings of relief from Bobby Roe. Roe earned his first save.

Pepperdine 4, California 1: David Matranga hit a two-run single, Jarad Pitney added an RBI double and junior Andy Shibilo scattered four hits over 6-2/3 innings in relief of starter Paul Avery as the Waves improved to 2-2 in the opening game of a rain-suspended doubleheader at Malibu.

Shibilo got the call after a one-hour, 40-minute rain delay and yielded the only run by the Bears (1-3) when Jason Hill homered in the sixth.

Play was halted in the fourth inning of the second game with Pepperdine leading 4-0. The game will be resumed today at 11 a.m., weather permitting.

Women's softball:

Oregon State 4, CS Northridge 0: The host Matadors (2-1) fell short as the Beavers (2-0) outhit them 5-3 in the Bud Light Spring Kickoff Tournament at Northridge. Jessica Creith, Cheri Shinn and Augrista Belford singled for the only CSUN hits in support of losing pitcher Tara Glaister.

The Matadors, ranked No. 15 in the nation after going 34-22-2 last season, had opened the tournament with a 9-0 win over Loyola Marymount, then defeated Northwestern 7-2. Winning pitcher Creith had three hits, including a double, against Loyola Marymount. Winning pitcher Shinn had two hits and catcher Chello Lopez homered against Northwestern.

In other tournament play, San Diego State defeated Loyola Marymount 7-1, out-hitting the Lions 8-6.
