The UCLA win evened the series at 1-1 while doing little to slow a Georgia Tech offense that has totaled 25 runs and 29 hits in the two games. Derik Goffena led the Yellowjackets (1-1) with four hits and six RBI. Starter Chad Cislak (2-1) got the win for the Bruins (2-4), working five innings and getting four innings of relief from Bobby Roe. Roe earned his first save.

Pepperdine 4, California 1: David Matranga hit a two-run single, Jarad Pitney added an RBI double and junior Andy Shibilo scattered four hits over 6-2/3 innings in relief of starter Paul Avery as the Waves improved to 2-2 in the opening game of a rain-suspended doubleheader at Malibu.

Shibilo got the call after a one-hour, 40-minute rain delay and yielded the only run by the Bears (1-3) when Jason Hill homered in the sixth.

Play was halted in the fourth inning of the second game with Pepperdine leading 4-0. The game will be resumed today at 11 a.m., weather permitting.

Women's softball:

Oregon State 4, CS Northridge 0: The host Matadors (2-1) fell short as the Beavers (2-0) outhit them 5-3 in the Bud Light Spring Kickoff Tournament at Northridge. Jessica Creith, Cheri Shinn and Augrista Belford singled for the only CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  hits in support of losing pitcher Tara Glaister.

The Matadors, ranked No. 15 in the nation after going 34-22-2 last season, had opened the tournament with a 9-0 win over Loyola Marymount, then defeated Northwestern 7-2. Winning pitcher Creith had three hits, including a double, against Loyola Marymount. Winning pitcher Shinn had two hits and catcher Chello Lopez homered against Northwestern.

In other tournament play, San Diego State defeated Loyola Marymount 7-1, out-hitting the Lions 8-6.
