Van Hook's perspective reflects the growth and further expansion of the College of the Canyons program.

The Commission on Athletics represents all 107 California community colleges - 102 of which participate in intercollegiate sports. The board to which Van Hook has been appointed is a new structure within the commission comprising college superintendents, presidents and chancellors. Board membership involves attending commission and conference meetings each year, participating on committees and working on projects, seminars and workshops.

``I look forward to participating on the board of the Commission on Athletics, facilitating change and encouraging colleges to develop intercollegiate sports programs,'' Van Hook said.
