The McDonald's Inaugural Community College Bowl will showcase community college student-athletes, encourage elementary school children to think about college as a goal, and raise money for the Palmdale and Lancaster education foundations, organizers said.

``It's something that's good for the community, good for our kids and good for the college,'' said sponsor Hernando Marroquin, owner with his wife, Fran, of six local McDonald's restaurants There are more than 30,000 McDonald's restaurants in 119 countries. Restaurants

Organizers believe the first game will raise $25,000 to $30,000 for the schools, and become the largest annual fund-raiser for their foundations, which give schools supplementary money to buy computers, expand fine arts programs and finance similar projects.

Organizers plan the game to be an annual event on the first Saturday in December.

School and college officials said they are excited about the plan.
