Officials plan to build a portable 12- to 15-foot tower to house a security guard who will watch for suspicious activity and better monitor the parking lots.

``It gets the security person above the cars,'' Bozman said. ``It looks like a lifeguard tower.''

Because it will be mounted on wheels, the tower can be moved to different parking lots.

``Our security department came up with that idea to help make them more effective,'' said Bozman. ``Our lots are too big to see what going on in each isle.''

Officials reported four auto burglaries on April 11, one on April 28 and three on May 3. ``They are doing it when people are in class,'' said Bozman, adding the the thief usually strikes between 9 a.m. and noon. ``They are undoubtedly watching the schedules.''

Following the May 3 burglaries, officials posted $250 reward for anyone who may information on the culprit.

``We want to do anything we can to make the burglaries stop,'' Bozman said. ``

The college has also increased patrols in the parking lots and placed flyers on students' cars, warning them not to leave anything of value in view. They also are asking students to notify officials of any suspicious activity.

``We want students to report anything suspicious that they see,'' Bozman said.

Crime on campus has been fairly uncommon, with four burglaries reported from 1995 and 1998, when the number spiked spike 1

``It seems like it goes in cycles,'' said Bozman. ``For some reason someone will start hitting our parking lots and then it stops. We try and see what we can do to provide extra coverage.''
