COLLEGE OF THE CANYONS NOTEBOOK: SIXTEEN MOVE ON TO CONFERENCE TRACK FINALS.

It promises to be a busy day for several College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  track and field athletes Saturday. And that's how coach Lindie Kane likes it.

The women finished third last season and the men were fifth, the best finishes by both programs.

Leading COC See chip on chip.  into the finals will be Danielle Stinnette, who qualified in the 100, 200 and 400 meters and high jump. Her sister, Michelle Stinnette, also qualified in the 100, 200 and long jump. The sisters figure to lead COC in the relay events.

Cat Asaije qualified in the 200, 400 and high jump, and Dana Rattler moved on in the 100, 400 hurdles and javelin.

She will be joined in the javelin competition by 52-year-old freshman Linda Cohn Linda Cohn (born November 10, 1959) is a sportscaster who appears on ESPN's SportsCenter as an anchor.

As a teenager, Cohn, a New Yorker, demonstrated talent at ice hockey, joining her high school's boys team for eight games.
, who threw 111 feet, 10 inches to advance.

Jessica Gomez, one of COC's best hopes for an individual conference title, advanced in the 800 and 1,500. Sara Soltani also qualified in the 800.

For the men, Ryan Davis - one of the state's best throwers - qualified in the shot put, discus, hammer and javelin. Dan Kaafi, COC's leading qualifier in the triple jump, also advanced in the javelin, and Mike Silva will compete in the discus.

Brian Belue and Ralph Butler qualified in the high, long and triple jumps, Gerrell Cain qualified in the long and triple jumps, and Carlton Spencer advanced in the long jump.

Justin Tyron advanced in the 200 and 400. Carey Raschel also qualified in the 400.

The number of COC athletes heading to Kansas Wesleyan in the fall might be increasing.

A representative from the school's men's basketball team was on campus Tuesday looking at sophomores Cedric Davis, Curtis Dunwoody (Valencia High) and Andrew Morris (Hart High).

Kansas Wesleyan finished 2-27 last season, closing out the year with a 20-game losing streak.
