Saturday night's game started promisingly for the Cougars, when an interception by Gerald Jones on the third play put COC at the Raiders' 23. But the Cougars offense couldn't take advantage and after managing to get just three yards, COC settled for a 37-yard field-goal attempt that Tommy Garagliano - the leading kicker in the state - missed. It was perhaps a sign of things to come, but it wasn't the only opportunity on which the Cougars failed to capitalize. COC led 14-10 midway through the second quarter and had a first-and-goal at the 3. A holding call on the first play pushed COC back to the 17 and the Cougars couldn't get into the end zone. They eventually tried a fake field-goal attempt that failed. The Cougars trailed 24-21 midway through the fourth quarter, but they took a 26-24 lead on a safety and Garagliano's 45-yard field goal. The lead didn't last long as Ray Carmel returned the ensuing kickoff 95 yards for what turned out to be a game-winning touchdown for the Raiders.
