COLLEGE NOTES; DAYNE WINS TWO AWARDS.

Ron Dayne, Wisconsin's record-setting tailback and the Heisman Trophy favorite, won the Maxwell and Doak Walker awards Thursday night.

College football's career rushing leader received the Maxwell Award as the best all-around player and the Doak Walker Award as the outstanding running back during the College Football Awards at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex Coordinates:  Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex is a 220 acre (89 ha) athletic complex located in Walt Disney World, Lake Buena Vista, Florida, that consists of 8 venues.  at Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Penn State linebacker LaVar Arrington received the Chuck Bednarik Trophy as the defensive player of the year, and Alabama offensive tackle Chris Samuels was awarded the Outland Trophy as the outstanding interior lineman.

Hamilton received the Davey O'Brien Quarterback Award, Stanford's Troy Walters won the Biletnikof Award as the outstanding wide receiver, Minnesota's Tyrone Carter won the Jim Thorpe Award The Jim Thorpe Award, named in memory of multi-sport legend Jim Thorpe, has been awarded to the top defensive back in college football since 1986. It is voted on by the Jim Thorpe Association, an Oklahoma based organization.  as the top defensive back and Florida State's Sebastian Janikowski received the Lou Groza Award The Lou Groza Award is presented annually to the top college football placekicker in the United States by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission. The award is named after former Ohio State University player Lou Groza.  as the outstanding kicker.

Claridge honored: USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  offensive lineman Travis Claridge won the Morris Trophy, which is given to the Pacific-10 Conference's outstanding lineman, as voted by the league's defensive lineman.

Claridge also won the outstanding offensive lineman award at USC's football awards banquet Thursday night.

Other winners were tailback Chad Morton (MVP (Multimedia Video Processor) A high-speed DSP chip from Texas Instruments, introduced in 1994. Officially introduced as the TMS320C80, it combines RISC technology with the functionality of four DSPs on one chip. ); quarterback John Fox (most inspirational); defensive back Frank Carter (special teams); safety David Gibson (outstanding player against UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles

); tailback Sultan McCullough (longest run); defensive lineman Todd Keneley (academics); defensive tackle Ryan Nielsen (outstanding defensive lineman); quarterback Mike Van Raaphorst (Bob Chandler award) and defensive backs Sandy Fletcher and Rick Luce (scout team).
