COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: UCLA LOOKING FOR 100.

Since, the Bruins had women's soccer, women's volleyball and men's basketball teams reach the Final Four and their men's soccer team play in the national title game, only to come up short.

UCLA's women's gymnastics team was the latest to take its crack at the elusive 100th crown, finishing fourth at last week's NCAA finals in Utah.

Four more UCLA teams will now have their opportunity to win title No. 100 when the postseason starts May 10.

The Bruins women's water polo team, coming off a 9-3 victory Sunday over Stanford in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation is a college athletic conference whose member teams are located in the western United States. The conference participates in the NCAA's Division I.  final, received the No. 2 seed in the eight-team tournament.

UCLA snapped Stanford's 22-game winning streak to secure its sixth conference title. The Bruins face No. 7 Pomona-Pitzer (20-9) in their first- round match May 11 and will have the first opportunity to capture the 100th title should they reach the May 13 final in Los Alamitos.

Georgia on their minds: The UCLA men's basketball team was unsuccessful in its bid to win a national title in Atlanta.

The Bruins men's and women's tennis teams now have their sights on reaching the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament May 17 at the Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.

UCLA's men's team, which captured its fourth consecutive Pacific-10 Conference title, received the No. 9 seed in the 64-team draw when the pairings were released Tuesday.

The Bruins (19-3), who have won more NCAA matches (84) than anyone in tournament history, play host to UNLV UNLV University of Nevada, Las Vegas  (13-13) in their first-round match May 11 at Los Angeles Tennis Center. UCLA will play Virginia Commonwealth (18-8) or Texas Tech (13-9) on May 12 for the right to go to Athens.

USC's men's tennis team (20-2), the No. 12 seed, will host first- and second-round action, with defending national-champion Pepperdine (22-7) also competing at Marks Stadium. The Trojans will face UC Santa Barbara (6-18) in their opening-round match May 11 and Pepperdine faces Penn State (16-6).

The Bruins and Trojans had their seeds nearly reversed in the women's tournament, with USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  (17-4) awarded No.8 and UCLA No. 12.

The Women of Troy, which captured their last NCAA title in 1985, play host to Boston University (13-5) on May 12, with the winner facing Texas (15-9) or UC Irvine (20-4) on May 13.

The Bruins (16-7), the 2004 national runner-up, play host May 12 to Quinnipiac (11-6). The winner takes on Florida State (15-7) or San Diego State (14-11) on May 13.

Seeking revenge: After losing to UC Irvine (27-5) in Saturday's championship match of the MPSF men's volleyball tournament, top-seed Pepperdine (26-2) will look to knock off to cease, as from work; to desist.

The national final is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday.

Tee times for two: The UCLA and Pepperdine women's golf teams were awarded No.2 seeds in their NCAA regionals, beginning May 10.

UCLA is in the East regional in Baton Rouge, La., and Pepperdine will compete in the West regional in St.George, Utah.
