COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: EARLY WINDFALL FOR USC BASKETBALL, UCLA GYMNASTICS.

The NCAA's early-signing period for every sport except football, men's and women's soccer, men's water polo water polo, swimming game encompassing features of soccer, football, basketball, and hockey. --USC's women's basketball Women's basketball is one of the few games which developed in tandem with men's. It became popular, spreading from the east coast of the United States to the west coast, in large part via women's colleges.  class has been judged the nation's best by USA Today USA Today

--UCLA's and Pepperdine's women's basketball teams also fared well. The Bruins signed 6-foot-6 post player Moniquee Alexander, an All-City Section standout at Narbonne High of Harbor City before heading to the IMG IMG International medical graduate, see there  Academy in Bradenton, Fla., where she was an all-state player for The Pendleton School. The Waves' class includes versatile La'Teena Wickett, a 6-3 forward-guard from Oakland whose passing abilities, Pepperdine coach Julie Rousseau says, are on par with Magic Johnson's.

--UCLA's women's gymnastics class might be the nation's best. It stars Alicia Sacramone, from Winchester, Mass., who won the floor and vault titles at the U.S. Championships and the floor at the World Championships. Also arriving: Anna Li, from Aurora, Ill., who should be at home at Pauley Pavilion. Her parents won medals for China at the 1984 Olympics, in which the gymnastics competition was held at Pauley.

--Cal State Northridge is ready to take a huge step forward in women's water polo with the help of a nine- player class that features U.S. junior national team goalkeeper Jillian Stapf from Hudsonville, Mich. - the first national-teamer CSUN's program has lured - and Dayna Van Gorder, the nation's top JC player, who led Riverside to the state title.

--UCLA, USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  and Pepperdine are bringing in top women's golfers, nothing new. The biggest name might be Sydnee Michaels of Temecula, the country's top recruit, who will play for the Bruins. Pepperdine and USC looked overseas. The Waves brought in South Korea-born Misun Cho, the No. 1 junior golfer in Australia, and the Trojans lured top Spaniard Belen Mozo mo·zo

UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX
 counters with Jason Kang, No. 9 in the U.S., who has just transferred to Hart of Newhall.

--USC's women's volleyball team will welcome Taylor Carico, the nation's top setter, from Mira Costa High of Manhattan Beach. Another top South Bay setter, Kiah Fiers of Peninsula of Rolling Hills Estates, will play at Pepperdine.
