DURHAM, N.C. -- Less than 30 seconds into its NCAA quarterfinal game at top-seeded Duke, UCLA's men's soccer team found itself trailing for the first time this postseason.

Thirty seconds into the first overtime period, the No. 8 Bruins had capped one of the great comebacks in program history.

After scoring the tying goal in the 78th minute, Sal Zizzo netted the winner off a cross from Jason Leopoldo to cap UCLA's rally from a two-goal deficit, lifting the Bruins to a 3-2 victory.

Zizzo's heroics helped the Bruins (13-5-4) advance to the College Cup for the 12th time and their first since 2002. UCLA will face No. 4 Virginia (17-3-1) Friday in one national semifinal in St. Louis, Mo.

This marks the first time the UCLA men's and women's soccer teams have advanced to the College Cup in the same year. UCLA's women's team will play No. 1 North Carolina on Friday in Cary, N.C.

``This was obviously a huge win for us,'' UCLA coach Jorge Salcedo said. ``We showed a lot of character down 2-0 on the road and against the No. 1 team in the country. This was a tough game for anyone to lose.''

Goals by Spencer Wadsworth and Chris Loftus gave Duke (18-4-1) a 2-0 lead less than 20minutes into the match. But Leopoldo, a Thousand Oaks High graduate, cut the deficit in half in the 41st minute, burying a cross from Kyle Nakazawa, who worked a give-and-go with David Estrada.

Nakazawa and Mike Zaher set up Zizzo's tying goal.

The Bruins fed off that momentum to silence 4,130 fans at Koskinen Stadium early in the extra period.

``The plan was to get on the endline and make a near-post run,'' said Zizzo, who has seven goals, including five in the postseason. ``Jason drove the ball around, and I tucked it away.''
