COLLEGE HEAD OFFERS VISION OF LOCAL GOALS.

PALMDALE - The new president of Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. During a lunchtime meeting of the Antelope Valley Board of Trade, Daniel Larios pointed to new facilities on campus and satellite programs with California State University Enrollment
 campuses as ways to maximize AVC's assets.

``In offering these programs we're going to be able to keep some of the talent here because I believe the jobs are here with aerospace and such,'' Larios said. ``It's all part of economic development and we want to be a player in that.''

Larios' comments were met with cheers and applause from the audience, which seemed pleased with his goals.

``He seems like he really knows where the college should go and just how to get it there,'' said Dan Simms, who owns an auto repair shop in Palmdale. ``I love his ideas and hope that local businesses can partner with the college to form a solid relationship.''

During the luncheon, Larios discussed the addition of three or four new buildings for the CSU See DSU/CSU.

1. CSU - California State University.
2. CSU - Cleveland State University.
3. CSU - Channel Service Unit.
 Bakersfield extension, including classrooms to accommodate the growing student enrollment. There are now about 550 students in the extension program.

The infrastructure for the buildings is being put in place and officials said they will begin classes as soon possible but have not yet set a date.

And ground could be broken within the month on the long-awaited technology building, which will include facilities for the college's engineering program.  board is scheduled to award the contract on the 46,000-square-foot building Aug. 13, with construction beginning soon after that.

Also in the works is a partner program with CSU campuses in Northridge, Fresno and Bakersfield, in which students could do most of the work toward a degree or certificate without having to drive to a university more than a couple of times a semester se·mes·ter
