COLLEGE FOOTBALL NOTEBOOK: REPORTS: CALLAHAN TO TAKE NEBRASKA COACHING JOB.

Former Oakland Raiders coach Bill Callahan reportedly will be hired as Nebraska's new head coach today, ESPN ESPN Entertainment and Sports Programming Network  and the Omaha (Neb.) World-Herald reported Thursday.

Callahan accepted the job after meeting Thursday with Nebraska athletic director Steve Pederson, both news sources reported.

Gary O'Hagan, Callahan's Minneapolis-based agent, said earlier in the day Callahan is ``very interested'' in the job.

The Huskers have been looking for a coach since Frank Solich was fired Nov. 29,.

 receiver Tab Perry was dismissed by the university for failing to meet academic requirements, and he has told the school he intends to transfer to a Division I-AA program.

Over his sophomore and junior seasons, Perry had a combined 56 catches for 1,114 yards and three scores. He set a school record with 26 kickoff returns for 598 yards his freshman year.
