COLLEGE FOOTBALL NOTEBOOK: BOLLER NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-PAC-10 TEAM.

Byline: Chris Cocoles Staff Writer

California senior quarterback Kyle Boller Kyle Bryan Boller (born June 17 1981 in Burbank, California) is an American football quarterback who plays for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Ravens in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft out of California.  (Hart High) was named to the second-team Academic All-Pac-10 Conference team. Boller has a 3.09 grade-point average in American studies.

Boller, whose 26 touchdowns and just nine interceptions helped lead the Golden Bears to a 6-5 record entering today's season finale against Stanford, is happy with his decision to attend Cal despite some rough times on the field his first three seasons.

``I'm not the type of player who has any regrets. And I believe that everything works out for a reason,'' he said of the myriad second-guessing regarding his decision to choose Cal over UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles

Stanford quarterback Kyle Matter (Hart) was an honorable mention Academic All-Pac-10 pick.

--Long road to end: College is supposed to offer plenty of moments, both good and bad. Matt Leonard has seen a little bit of everything in his five years attending and playing football at Stanford.

``I'm really happy with my experiences. I survived a 3-8 season and played in a Rose Bowl,'' the senior from Palmdale High said.

In between included a career-threatening back injury last year. But Stanford went 10-3 and Leonard started in the Seattle Bowl The Seattle Bowl was a college football bowl game played in 2001 and 2002 between teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Pacific Ten Conference in Seattle, Washington. He's been healthy in his senior season, but the Cardinal is just 2-8 overall, have lost four in a row and seven of eight.

Leonard's long road through Stanford ends today when he takes the field for the last time. The Cardinal plays arch-rival California in Berkeley.

Leonard is playing well as one of the few experienced players on the Cardinal defense. The 2001 honorable mention All-Pacific-10 Conference choice has registered 23 tackles, six for loss, two sacks, two interceptions and a forced fumble.

The good numbers aside, Leonard said his biggest attribute as a senior has been his leadership toward a painfully young Stanford team that has taken its lumps.

``I think what I noticed more than anything, was that talking to Noun 1. talking to - a lengthy rebuke; "a good lecture was my father's idea of discipline"; "the teacher gave him a talking to"

Antelope Valley coach Brent Newcomb remembered getting a call one day from his former quarterback Mobley, who had played some quarterback at New Mexico New Mexico, state in the SW United States. Mobley played in all 11 of the Bobcats' games last season as a safety and had two interceptions. He hasn't been as productive this season, playing in 10 games with 26 tackles.

Mobley had a standout career as the Antelopes' quarterback, leading his team to the Southern Section Division II semifinals in 1997.

``Not only was he 6-1, 195 or whatever he was,'' Newcomb said. ``He was strong. He worked hard in the weight room.''
