COLLEGE FOOTBALL : MOORPARK SHOULD HAVE AN EASY TIME.

Byline: Dave Desmond Daily News Staff Writer

For the third straight week, the Monarchs (5-1, 2-0) meet a winless team for the opportunity to really beef up on the stats.

Two weeks ago, it was Compton and an easy 47-6 victory. Last week, Valley set the school's single-game record for points scored in an 80-20 WSC victory over Pierce.

This Saturday, it's Harbor (0-5, 0-1), a team coming off a 39-0 shutout loss to Hancock.

Valley running back Marcus Harvey, who scored four touchdowns against Pierce, is 32 points shy of the school's career scoring mark of 194.

Moorpark at Compton, cancelled: Moorpark picked up a victory Fridaywithout attempting a pass. It's scheduled game today against Compton was cancelled when the Tartars tartar /tar·tar/ (tahr´ter) dental calculus.

decided to forfeit after apparently having trouble fielding enough players.

In the past two weeks, the Raiders (5-1, 2-0) have shut out two of the WSC's best offensive teams in Glendale and West L.A.

During that same period, Compton (0-6, 0-2) has scored six points and yielded 95.

Glendale at Ventura: The Vaqueros, who suffered a 24-0 loss to Moorpark in their last game, have had two weeks to regroup thanks to a bye last Saturday.

Glendale (2-3) opens WSC Northern Division play against a hot Pirates team (3-2) that last week upset previously unbeaten Santa Monica 43-29. Ventura's Elihu 1 Ancestor of Samuel. An alternate form is Eliel.

Vann was the conference's running back of the week after gaining 212 yards and scoring three touchdowns in that game.

Glendale's Ramone Archie (557 yards) and Rahsaan Harrison (485) combined for more than 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns during the season's first half.

Pierce at Bakersfield: After the 60-point loss to Valley, Pierce must now face one of the state's perennial powers.

Pierce quarterback Dan McMullen, knocked out of the Valley game, has been day-to-day, but should be cleared to play. Jermaine Brooks, the WSC's leading receiver, was limited to only three catches against Valley.

One of the few bright spots for the Brahmas (0-5) last week was the play of freshman Thomas Becklin, a linebacker from Sweden.

Pierce will need a lot more than Becklin to match up with the Renegades (4-1). Bakersfield is averaging 36 points per game and defeated Modesto 45-15 last week. Nathan Sparks was the WSC's quarterback of the week after passing for 241 yards and five touchdowns.

Southwestern at Antelope Valley: These teams have not met since the 1988 Hall of Fame Bowl. Southwestern (3-3), an independent, beat Rio Hondo 28-27 last week.

Antelope Valley, No. 2 in the Foothill Conference in total offense (343 yards per game), rolled up 354 total yards in a 38-3 victory over Desert last week.

Cal Lutheran at Claremont: Cal Lutheran's Fredrik Nanhed set school records with 46 carries and 313 yards when these teams met last season. Nanhed has missed much of this season with a hamstring injury but gained 101 yards last week as the Kingsmen (1-4) beat Occidental. Expect backup quarterback Zack Hernandez of L.A. Baptist High to see considerable playing time after rallying the team from an 11-point deficit in last week's 19-18 victory. Top receiver Tom Herman, out since the season opener with a knee injury, also may see action.

Pomona-Pitzer at Occidental: The host Tigers must win all of their remaining games to avoid suffering their second straight losing season.

Occidental (0-5, 0-2) has shown marked improvement in recent weeks.

Two weeks ago, the Tigers played even with defending Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion LaVerne before falling.

Last week, they lost to Cal Lutheran after leading by 11 points.

Top receiver Tom Herman, out since the season opener with a knee injury, also may see action.
