That Washington is ranked eighth and 3-0 is a bit of a surprise. That the Huskies have done it at times in spite of quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo Marques Tuiasosopo (born March 22, 1979 in Woodinville, Washington) is a professional football player, a quarterback for the NFL's New York Jets. He began his career in 2001 with the Oakland Raiders.  is shocking.

If the Huskies were going to have a national-championship season, it was thought they would have to ride Tuiasosopo's arm and legs for their success. Instead, he has been less than ordinary in key moments and is dashing his Heisman Trophy Heisman Trophy

hopes even as the Huskies flourish.

Proof lies in Tuiasosopo's five interceptions - the most among Pac-10 quarterbacks - and three touchdown passes.

He is seventh in the Pac-10's quarterback-rating system, trailing a group that features Stanford's Randy Fasani Randy Fasani (born September 18, 1978 in Granite Bay, California) is a former professional American football quarterback. High school career
Fasani started his football days at Del Oro High School in Loomis, California.
, Washington State's Jason Gesser and UCLA's Ryan McCann Ryan McCann (born 21 September 1981 in Bellshill) is a Scottish football midfielder currently playing for Bohemians. McCann began his career with Celtic, where he made one solitary appearance in an end of season game. .

``We are fortunate to be in the spot we are because I haven't had a good, quality day in terms of efficiency,'' said Tuiasosopo. ``Maybe (I need to be) more cautious with the ball in terms of being more sure.''

Tuiasosopo had two interceptions in the final five minutes of the first half against Colorado, with one returned for a touchdown.

``As much football as I've played and the experiences I've had, those are things I shouldn't do,'' Tuiasosopo said. ``I'm tremendously frustrated.''

It's not too late for Tuiasosopo to salvage his Heisman hopes, if he can turn his season around starting next week against Oregon. He is eighth on CNN/SI's Heisman Watch.

Washington's athletic department has not yet decided if it will begin sending out postcards trumpeting Tuiasosopo as a Heisman candidate.

--Michigan's mad: Coach Lloyd Carr Lloyd H. Carr (born July 30, 1945) has served as head coach of the University of Michigan football team since 1995. To date, Carr has a record of 119-38. Under Carr, the Wolverines have won or shared five Big Ten titles (in 1997, 1998, 2000, 2003, and 2004), and his 1997 squad was  called Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany to complain about two third-quarter calls in the UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles

``When I went in, I just tried to think, `OK, I'm just back at (Long Beach) Poly, Friday-night lights.' I was thinking about my sister (Robyn, a member of Stanford's volleyball team) sitting in the stands. She never gets rattled. She would have done a better job than me.''

--Upon further review: The controversial winning touchdown catch Florida's Jabar Gaffney Derrick Jabar Gaffney (born December 1, 1980 in San Antonio, Texas) is an American football wide receiver for the New England Patriots of the National Football League. He was drafted with the 1st pick of the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft out of the University of Florida by  made against Tennessee ``probably'' would have been ruled an incompletion if it hadn't occurred in the end zone, SEC supervisor of officials Bobby Gaston said.

``As fast as it seemed to have happened, probably if I were guessing, it would have been an incompletion in the field of play,'' Gaston said. ``But it's different in the end zone because all you have to do is establish player possession for an instant of a second. That's all it takes.''

``I appreciate Brad Scott recruiting these players; we had them last year, too,'' said Holtz, whose team went 0-11 in 1999. ``I think I would give Brad a great deal of credit just as I'm sure Tommy would be the first to jump up and give (former Clemson coach) Tommy West a lot of credit.''

--He's a Nutt: Arkansas coach Houston Nutt was labeled a ``used-car salesman'' by a Boise State athlete who played for Nutt three years ago.

``I do respect the guy, but he's a used-car salesman,'' Boise defensive lineman Bradly Phillips said before losing to the Razorbacks on Saturday.

Asked if he could sell a used car, Nutt responded: ``You betcha and I'd be good at it. You're doggone right. And I sell 'em a good car, too.''
