CalArts has a multidisciplinary approach to studying the arts through its six related schools: Art, Critical Studies, Dance, Film/Video, Music, and Theatre. Netherlands Comes to Julliard The Juilliard School, under the direction of Benjamin Harkarvy, has invited Hans van Manen Hans van Manen (Nieuwer-Amstel, Netherlands, 11 July 1932) is a Dutch ballet dancer, choreographer and photographer. He is a son of a German housemaid. He studied under Sonia Gaskell, Françoise Adret and Nora Kiss. Hans van Manen wrote many ballets. , the principal choreographer for Netherlands Dance Theater, to work with Juilliard dancers next year. In his nearly forty-year career, mostly with NDT NDT Newfoundland Daylight Time where he was artistic director for ten years, van Manen has created more than one hundred ballets, putting him in the forefront of the international dance world in melding classical and modern dance forms. The project begins in September when two of van Manen's assistants will come to New York City to work with the students and prepare excerpts from several ballets for public performance in December. Van Manen will also be present prior to the performances to work with students at all levels. The project culminates in the presentation of one of van Manen's full-length ballets at the Juilliard spring dance concert in February 2000. |
