VALENCIA - A local coffeehouse company plans a drive-through stand in the College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. ``It's going to be a full coffeehouse,'' said Mitch McMullen. ``We'll have a nice deck with a walk-up patio. We love the location; Valencia Boulevard is the gateway to Valencia.''

McMullen said the coffeehouse will be open seven days a week, from 5 a.m. or 6 a.m. into the evening, which will benefit not only students and commuters, but also patrons of the weekend farmers market and auto fair. He estimated the size of the business at about 1,000 square feet.

The stand's proceeds will benefit the college's foundation, which raises money for student services and scholarships.

``We're going through the conditional-use (permit) process now,'' said Jim Schrage, dean of facilities and the project coordinator. ``If approved, we should be ready to build and open some time in the spring.''

The proposal will be reviewed next month by the Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. ``It's been quite an experience,'' said Kathleen Maloney, executive director of the foundation. ``We have been thinking about it for a couple of years and finally got serious about it.''

Maloney said the impact on the surrounding neighborhoods will be a primary consideration during the permit process.

``We don't want it to open too early and wake the neighbors who sleep in, but we also want to make it available for people going in to work or for early classes,'' she said. ``This will serve not only our students who park in those lots and go off to class, but also those commuters who get off the freeway and want a cup of coffee. ``It would be great to keep it open for the audience and the people who work there,'' she said. ``The foundation will be running the concession stand Concession stand is the term used to refer to a place where patrons can purchase snacks or food at a cinema, fair, Stadium, or other entertainment venue.
