With the win, the third-seeded Monarchs (30-5) earned a berth in the state tournament for the first time since 1999. The tournament begins Thursday in Stockton. Derby led Valley with 24 points, including 16 after halftime, to help her team rally from an eight-point second-half deficit. ``We've depended on Markia all season long,'' Valley coach Mike Muro said. ``She always scored the points for us. But tonight she took it up another notch. She was getting offensive rebounds and keeping us in the game.'' Liliana Ramirez and Itricia Wells each added 14 points for Valley. The Monarchs managed to pull out the victory despite poor free-throw shooting. The team went just 10 of 21 from the line in the second half after going 7 of 8 in the first half. Nancy Hatsushi led the sixth-seeded Pirates (25-9) with 20 points, including six of the team's 12 3-pointers.
