COLLEGE BASKETBALL: MASTER'S COLLEGE STAYS UNDEFEATED AT HOME WITH WIN.Byline: IVAN OROZCO Staff Writer The Master's College History The Master's College was founded as Los Angeles Baptist Theological Seminary on May 25, 1927 to meet the need for a fundamental Baptist school on the West Coast. men's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak and remains undefeated at home, but the team is not yet where it wants to be. First-year coach Chuck Martin is trying to rebuild the program by creating a team identified by its defense and ability to spread the ball around the court. The Mustangs showed some signs of that in a 63-57 nonconference win Tuesday night against Hawaii-Hilo. Martin's team held the Vulcans, a Div A DIV Associate of Divinity .II team, to 29 points and less than 28percent shooting in the second half, and it held onto a six-point lead after coming back from an eight-point deficit at the half. ``We're not quite there yet,'' Martin said. ``I don't think we're far from it, but when you are trying to build a program, you have to have confidence. I think we have that confidence, and the win against Hilo helped boost that. ``There's times in a game in which we are able to press and keep teams from scoring, but then we have the same problem and have spurts where we can't score.'' The Mustangs (4-3, 0-2 Golden State Athletic Conference The Golden State Athletic Conference is a college athletics conference in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). We need to get Josh JOSH Joshua JOSH Job Scheduling Hierarchically (Herman) more touches.'' Herman, a freshman guard from Stevenson Ranch Stevenson Ranch, California (in the 91381 ZIP Code) is a Los Angeles County, USA, unincorporated community west of Santa Clarita a few miles south of Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park. The Master's is also hoping to get more production out of Louisiana-Lafayette transfer Lucian Pesoli. The 6-foot-7 junior forward is averaging 18.9points per game. He was held to eight points against the Vulcans Tuesday night. ``Lucian has been slowed by a groin groin, in oceanography: see coast protection. pull, but he's working hard, and I know he can give us what he can when he's healthy. We also would like to have freshman Thomas Millar back in there to help us out.'' Millar, a 6-foot-4 guard who is nursing a stress fracture stress fracture n. Millar might not be ready to play until late December. Martin has seen most of the Mustangs' scoring come from guard Ryan Zamroz and forward Eric Durso. The Mustangs rallied against Hawaii-Hilo behind a combined six second-half 3-pointers by 6-foot-4 Zamroz, a sophomore, and Durso, a 6-foot-4 junior. Zamroz finished with a team-high 23 points, while Durso had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Coming into Saturday's game against Concordia of Irvine, Zamroz was second in team scoring with 113 points behind Pesoli's 132. Durso leads the team with 48 rebounds. ivan.orozco@dailynews.com (818) 713-3607 |
