COLLEGE BASEBALL ROUNDUP: WAVES WIN ON HARPER BASE HIT SINGLE DEFEATS NO. 25 SAN DIEGO.

Pepperdine's Ty Harper singled to left field in the bottom of the ninth inning to drive home Cory Brightwell with the game-winning run in the Waves' 4-3 West Coast Conference victory over No. 25 San Diego on Friday at Eddy D. Field Stadium.

In the bottom of the eighth, Duke Sardinha broke a 2-2 tie with a leadoff home run for Pepperdine (16-17, 6-2), winners of five consecutive conference games.

However, San Diego rallied to tie the score in the top of the ninth when Mike McCoy scored from third base on a fielder's choice. That would be the only run given up by the Waves' Derek Mills (2-3), who pitched two innings, allowing three hits to earn the victory.

Sophomore right hander Jacob Barrack started for Pepperdine and worked seven innings, scattered seven hits, allowed two runs, walked one and struck out a career-high-tying seven batters.

The three-game series continues today at 1 p.m. in Malibu.

--USC 9, Oregon State 0: After gaining its 600th victory at Dedeaux Field on Tuesday, USC continued its winning ways at home with the Pacific-10 Conference victory over the Beavers.

Bill Peavey, Alberto Concepcion and Joey Metropoulos each hit home runs for the Trojans (17-13, 4-0), who had nine hits.

Metropoulos finished 2 for 2 with two RBI, Concepcion was 2 for 3 with three RBI, and Peavey's three-run home run was his seventh of the season.

Teammate Anthony Reyes had seven strikeouts and scattered three hits in five scoreless innings to earn his first victory of the year.

The series continues today at 1 p.m., followed by the series finale at 1 p.m. Sunday.
