Facing one of the nation's top closers, host Pepperdine rallied for two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over UC Irvine in a nonconference game Tuesday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium.

The Waves (12-8) came up with two clutch hits off preseason All-American Blair Erickson to score the tying and go-ahead runs.

--CSUN 11, LMU 9: Visiting Northridge jumped ahead by eight runs and held off Loyola Marymount's seventh-inning rally for the nonconference victory.

LMU (5-12) rallied for six runs in the seventh but managed just one hit off of Peter Eberhardt in the final two innings.

Alberto Quintana was 4 for 6 with three runs and four RBI, Jeff Tezak and Johnny Coit each had three hits and John Voita, Michael Paulk and Erick Hagstrom each had two hits in a 19-hit attack for Northridge.

Eberhardt earned his fifth save of the season for Northridge (8-8-1).

Joe Frazee was 3 for 5 with and Brandon DiTolla also had three hits for Loyola Marymount. Teammate Chris Pettit and Evan Sahal had a pair of hits as well.

--USC 6, San Diego 1: Jack Spradlin gave up one run and scattered seven hits in a season-high six innings as No. 23 USC (10-6) defeated host San Diego (16-11-1) in nonconference game at Cunningham Stadium.
