The visitors' clubhouse at Eddy D. Field Stadium was a peculiar place for the home team's fortunes to turn around. But Pepperdine's baseball players swear a two-hour meeting staged in that tiny room beneath the third-base dugout alleviated a midseason crisis.

The rejuvenated, 14th-ranked Waves routed Portland 8-0 Sunday in the regular-season finale. The West Coast Conference's West Division champions host Coast Division-winner Gonzaga in a best-of-three series beginning Friday in Malibu.

Pepperdine (39-15, 25-5) won 19 of its final 22 games after coach Frank Sanchez gathered everyone into the locker room. A humbling 11-3 loss at UCLA dropped the Waves to 20-12 on April 3.

``We realized we weren't going anywhere. We said, 'If we play like this, we're not going to a regional. And we're too good not to play in a regional,' '' junior pitcher/DH Dan Haren said. ``Something happened. Something clicked over.''

Waves senior Greg Ramirez pitched six shutout innings, and Tony Garcia and Danny Garcia combined for six hits and three RBI.

--USC 7, Washington State 0: Rik Currier tossed a five-hit shutout for the Pac-10-leading Trojans (35-16, 15-5). No. 5 USC is expected to be named one of 16 NCAA Regional host schools when sites are announced today.

--Loyola Marymount 6, Gonzaga 4: In Spokane, Wash., Freshman second baseman Billy Lockin went 4 for 4 with three RBI to lift the Lions (21-37, 8-22) in their season finale.

--Oregon State 11, UCLA 8: Josh Canales had three hits and extended his hitting streak to 20 games, but it wasn't enough as the host Bruins (29-24, 8-13) missed a chance to sweep the Beavers (30-22, 10-11).

--Cal State Northridge 8, Sacramento State 3: Adam Nikolic drove in four runs and Jason Allec finished with three hits to complete a sweep by the visiting Matadors (31-22, 9-9).
