Sharpe, the Trojans' leadoff hitter, reached base safely on all six plate appearances and hit his third home run of the season.

 pitcher James Freeman did not record an out in the first inning, which lasted 42 minutes and had USC scoring eight runs. Freeman allowed two hits, two walks and five runs before he was removed. Before the inning was through, USC had 14 baserunners.

USC starter Brian Bannister only lasted one inning after allowing two runs, but freshman Anthony Encinas Encinas is a municipality located in the province of Segovia, Castile and León, Spain. According to the 2004 census (INE), the municipality has a population of 68 inhabitants.  pitched solid five innings of relief, allowing one run and three hits while earning his fifth win of the season.

Roberto Lopez, also a freshman, had his first three-hit game, going 3 for 4 with a RBI for USC (31-15, 11-6).

WSU fell to 20-31 and 0-17.

--UCLA 4, Stanford 3: Bryan Beck pitched 8 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs and eight hits while striking out four batters as the Bruins defeated Stanford (28-19, 9-8) in Pac-10 play.

Tommy Landson went 3 for 4 with RBI and Chris Jensen drove in two runs for UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles

--Pepperdine 9-5, Santa Clara 4-2: Adrian Ortiz went 3 for 5 with two RBI in the second game of a doubleheader as the Waves swept visiting Santa Clara (26-26, 9-17) in West Coast Conference play.

The victories move Pepperdine (32-19, 18-8) to within a game of West Division leader San Francisco (36-15, 19-7).

Kea Kometani (9-4) pitched 7 2/3 innings for Pepperdine in the second game, striking out seven batters and allowing two earned runs. Donald Brown went 3 for 5 with two RBI for the Waves.

In the first game, Pepperdine trailed 2-0 after two innings but used a four-run third to pull away from Santa Clara and pick up a conference win in a makeup game from March.

Barry Enright (7-1) pitched six innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out two. James Johnson pitched the final three innings and allowed no hits while walking one for his first save of season.

--Pacific 12, CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  5: CSUN led after six innings but could not hold on as Pacific rallied to defeat the host Matadors in Big West Conference play.

CSUN (17-29, 1-16) had leads of 4-2 and 5-3, but Pacific scored eight runs in the final three innings to pull away.

Pacific was led by Matt Berezay, who hit two home runs and went 2 for 4 with two RBI, and Justin Baum, who also homered and went 2 for 3 and had two RBI.

Josh Meagher went 2 for 4 for the Matadors and drove in two runs.
