COLLEGE BASEBALL ROUNDUP: CSUN BATS FALL SHORT IN DEFEAT.

Utah came into Friday's game against Cal State Northridge in a hitting slump, but it was CSUN's bats that fell silent in a 5-4 loss in the opener of a three-game nonconference series at Northridge.

The Matadors (3-4) had six hits and struck out 12 times, while Utah (2-2) had 10 hits and struck out six times.

Freshman outfielder and Chatsworth High graduate Jared Halpert had CSUN's best offensive performance, going 2 for 2 with a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game.
