The loss was the 15th in a row for UCLA (7-19, 0-4).

USC (19-9, 4-3) also had a streak extended when Jeff Clement Jeffrey B. USC hitters didn't leave anything to protest about in the second inning. The first four batters of the inning reached base before a three-run double by Blake Sharpe provided a 4-0 lead.

A two-run home run by Darin Vieira - the junior's first of the season - extended USC's lead to 6-0 in the sixth inning.

Sharpe and Vieira both finished with two hits and a combined seven RBI RBI

UCLA's Brett McMillian ended the shutout with a two-out solo home run in the seventh inning.

An inning earlier, the Bruins stranded a runner at third for the second time. Two errors on one play put Josh Roenicke on third with no outs in the sixth, but the next three UCLA batters went down in order.

USC starter Jack Spradlin (3-1) retired nine of the first 10 batters he faced. A second-inning walk to Hector Ambriz provided the Bruins' lone baserunner until a leadoff single by Tommy Lansdon in the fourth inning. Spradlin held UCLA to four hits in eight innings.

UCLA starter Brian Schroeder (0-3) allowed four runs on five hits and four walks with four strikeouts in five innings.

The three-game series continues today at 2 p.m. when Ambriz starts against Trojans ace Ian Kennedy.
