COLLEGE'S INFORMATION DAY TO OFFER STUDENTS TRANSFER TIPS.

LANCASTER - Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. It is operated by the Antelope Valley Community College District, with a primary service area of 1,945 square miles covering portions of Los Angeles and Kern counties.  will host representatives of more than 40 universities from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 14 at the campus' student lounge and patio.

College Information Day is an annual event designed to provide opportunities for students to learn about transfer options to many schools, AVC public relations director Steve Standerfer said.

Information about admissions, financial aid, other programs and student activities will be available, he said.

Public California schools to be represented are the University of California The University of California has a combined student body of more than 191,000 students, over 1,340,000 living alumni, and a combined systemwide and campus endowment of just over $7.3 billion (8th largest in the United States).  campuses at Berkeley, Davis, Los Angeles, Riverside and Santa Barbara, plus California State University Enrollment
 campuses at Bakersfield, Chico, Dominguez Hills, Fresno, Humboldt, Northridge, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Luis Obispo San Luis Obispo (săn l`ĭs ōbĭs`pō), city (1990 pop. 41,958), seat of San Luis Obispo co., S Calif., near San Luis Obispo Bay; inc. 1856.  and Sonoma.

Cal State Bakersfield's Extended University program in the Antelope Valley will be represented as well.

Independent schools will include the Academy of Art College, American Intercontinental University American InterContinental University, commonly called AIU, is an international for-profit university owned by Career Education Corporation (stock symbol CECO). LANCASTER - The Antelope Valley College athletic department is offering $300 or more in cash to the person who comes up with the best name for the new Marauders mascot character.

Cheerleader adviser Donna Horn is also looking for a volunteer to wear the costume at football games and a horse rider to serve as the Marauders character at the games, AVC public relations director Steve Standerfer said.

``The mascot, designed to reflect the Marauder MARAUDER. One who, while employed in the army as a soldier, commits a larceny or robbery in the neighborhood of the camp, or while wandering away from the army. Merl. Repert. h.t.  logo of a scimitar-wielding person in burnoose and cape, represents the college at athletic contests and other events,'' Standerfer said. ``The character will replace Sinbad, a parrot that had accompanied the college's cheerleaders for the last few years.''

Entry forms can be obtained on campus at the Marauder Bookstore, the Student Development Center office and the Physical Education Division office, Standerfer said.

``The winner will receive $100 cash, dinner for two at Applebee's Neighborhood Grill and Bar, an AVC gift pack, which includes a sweat shirt from the Marauder Bookstore, athletic game pass, Associated Student Organization card and parking permit,'' Standerfer said.

Auditions for the Marauders character will be today at 5 p.m. in the dance room, located in the AVC gymnasium.

The new character will be revealed at Saturday's football home game at Marauder stadium where AVC will take on San Jacinto College.

LANCASTER - Antelope Valley College will offer a weekend computer-learning course starting Oct. 17.

``Microcomputer Operating Systems,'' or ``Computer Applications 33,'' will be held at the campus Friday and Saturday nights at 6 p.m., college public relations director Steve Standerfer said.

``The course will lead students through use of an operating system to manage IBM-compatible microcomputers, including instruction on popular utility programs and virus detection software,'' Standerfer said.

The fee for the class is $13 per unit for California residents.
