COLLEGE: SHEWMAKE LEADS CSUN TO VICTORY.Byline: Daily News For 3 1/2 seasons, Cal State Northridge's Thomas Shewmake has been plagued by inconsistency -- some would call the 6-foot-10 senior an underachiever -- but he finally has come into his own. Shewmake set a career scoring mark for the second time in row Wednesday, scoring 25 points in a 91-74 nonconference basketball victory over UC Davis in front of 721 at the Matadome. Four days earlier, Shewmake scored 24 points in a loss to Cal State Fullerton. His scoring average has risen from 5.7 to 7.4 points per game after his past two performances. "It's been tough the last three years, and I've been up and down this year," Shewmake said. "Lately, I've kind of gone from a role player to the go-to guy. I'm big, I'm 6-10 but I kind of lost focus. Now I'm doing what I need to do because it's come down to the last few games of my senior year." Shewmake made 10 of 16 shots -- including 2of 2 3-pointers -- with 10 rebounds, threeassists and two blocks. "I think it's been tough on him, but Thomas came out with intensity and focus," coach Bobby Braswell Bobby Braswell, an American basketball coach, is currently the head coach for Cal State Northridge.
