The Antelope Valley
 voters go to the polls today to vote on local races that include the $139 million Measure R for Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. It is operated by the Antelope Valley Community College District, with a primary service area of 1,945 square miles covering portions of Los Angeles and Kern counties.  and Antelope Valley Hospital board seats.

Polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

 where to vote can call the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder's Office at (800) 815-2666 or go on the Internet at www.lavote.net. Voters in Kern County can call the Kern County Elections Division at (800) 452-8683 or go online at www.co.kern.ca.us.

Measure R, which requires 55 percent of the vote to pass, would pay for expanding and repairing college facilities. It would increase property taxes an annual $19.50 a year for each $100,000 of assessed valuation, meaning a homeowner with a house assessed at $200,000 would pay an extra $39 a year.

In the Antelope Valley Hospital board race for three seats, incumbents Dr. Abdallah Farrukh and Steve Fox Steve Fox may refer to:

 face challengers Dr. John Manning, Dr. Tom Mahendra, Berna Mayer, Robert Davenport Robert Davenport (fl. 1623-1639) was an English dramatist of the early seventeenth century. Nothing is known of his early life or education; the title pages of two of his plays identify him as a "Gentleman," though there is no record of him at either of the two universities or the , Dr. Christine Cambridge, Mathew Abraham and Roger Berger.

Other races and candidates include:

--Antelope Valley-East Kern Water Agency's Division 7: Incumbent David Rizzo faces Maurice Kunkel, a retired meteorologist and Wilsona School District board member.

--Rosamond Community Services District: Incumbents Greg Wood and John ``Jack'' Roth face Dennis Shoffner and Byron Glennan.

--Muroc Joint Unified School District A unified school district is a school district which includes both primary school (kindergarten through middle school or junior high) and high school (grades 9-12). In Illinois, these districts are called unit school districts. : Appointed incumbent Diane Boroff faces challenger Jeremeh Job.

--Mojave Unified School District: Incumbents Wayne Dickerson and Polly Solomon-Worley face challenger Connie Biehl, a former trustee.

In some areas, voters will pick between Rep. Howard P. ``Buck'' McKeon, a Santa Clarita Republican, and Democratic businessman Fred ``Tim'' Willoughby in the 25th Congressional District.

Other areas of the valley are in the 22nd Congressional District, in which Bakersfield Republican Bill Thomas is seeking re-election unopposed.

In the 36th state Assembly District, incumbent Sharon Runner, R-Lancaster, is opposed by Antelope Valley College professor Horton Scioneaux, a Democrat. In the 34th Assembly District in Kern County, incumbent Bill Maze, a Republican, is opposed by Democrat Maggie Florez.

Runner's husband, George, a former assemblyman, is running for a state Senate seat against Democrat Jonathan Kraut kraut
