COLEMAN'S RAP FOR SKY-BLUES; Coventry boss furious at first-half display.

COVENTRY City manager Chris Coleman Chris Coleman is the name of several people, including:
  • Chris Coleman (footballer), a Welsh former football player and then manager;
  • Chris Coleman (politician), Minnesota politician and (as of 2006) mayor of the state's capital city of Saint Paul;
 threw down a challenge to his players after watching them fall to a disappointing defeat at relegation threatened Derby County.

Coleman was clearly furious at his side's poor first-half showing when they conceded both goals and could have gone in at half-time at least four behind.

Coleman, who gave debuts to new signing David Bell David Bell may refer to:
  • David Bell (television) (1936-1990)
  • David Bell (VC) (1845-1920), Irish soldier
  • David S. Bell, an alleged ghost of Bell House in Georgia, USA featured on the Megascience episode "Ghosthunters"
  • David E.
 and loan player Jordan Henderson, criticised his players for a lack of appetite and said he would judge them in training before making his selection next week.

He said: "I will pick my team for Saturday based on who is bothered, who is hungry and who looks the most keen to play. Wolves are top of the table and will be bringing a big crowd to the Ricoh Arena Inaugural events
The arena became the venue for Coventry City's home games at the start of the 2005-06 season, following 106 years at the Highfield Road stadium. The first competitive football match played at the Ricoh Arena was against Queens Park Rangers on 20 August 2005, in
.

"We've got enough talent but it's a question of whether we've got the belief or the desire to push on to the top half of the table.

"Derby County were the first to everything in the opening 45 minutes.

"I will not accept it. Aboutamonth ago we had a whole string of injuries, with three or four academy players on the bench but we were winning games.

"It seems to me the more bodies we're getting back and the thicker the squad is becoming, the more our performances are dropping.

"Derby did very well in the first half and played with a greater tempo and a greater appetite than we did.

"I was not very happy at half-time. What I said to the players will stay between them and me. I took off Freddy Eastwood Freddy Eastwood (born October 29, 1983 in Basildon, Essex)[1] is an English-born footballer, currently playing for Wolverhampton Wanderers. He is a Welsh International, eligible to play for the Welsh national football team as his maternal grandfather was born in  but to be honest I could have taken anybody but the goalkeeper off.

"I don't know what the defence were doing, it's almost as if they want to get Westwood a move because they are giving him five or six saves every game."

Coleman was forced to make a very late change when youngster Ben Turner This article is about the English footballer. For DC Comics character, see Bronze Tiger.

 was pulled out of the side just before kick-off.

Colemansaid: "Benhad beenupall night with a migraine and was not feeling well at all. Marcus Hall Marcus Hall, (born in Coventry 24 March 1976), is a former England Under 21 football player, who currently plays football for Coventry City. He has played for the club for most of his career, coming through the ranks to make his debut in 1994.  came in and, to be fair to him, he's had to play right-back, leftback and centre-half this season.

"I knew we would lose our shape because of the twonew wide players. David only joined us at lunchtime on Friday and Jason had only had one session with us. But that is not the point. You have to get the basics right."

No one could argue with Coleman's assessment.

Derby, under new boss Nigel Clough Nigel Howard Clough (born 19 March, 1966, Sunderland) is a former English footballer and the current player-manager of Burton Albion. He played mainly as a striker but could adapt to other positions. , were far quicker out of the blocks and a goal from the home side looked inevitable.

Rob Hulse had already gone close on two occasions when he nodded County in front in the 14th minute.

GaryTeale's corner was punched away by Westwood but when Kris Commons directed it back towards goal Hulse was on hand to nod it home.

Coventry had hardly drawn breath before the home side doubled the advantage.

Teale showed an impressive burst of pace to leave Stephen Wright flat-footed and deliver an excellent cross from the left. Hulse helped it on and there was Commons to finish in style.

Commons could have added another three minutes later, but Westwood made an excellent stop.

The keeper then had a lucky break nine minutes from the interval when Teale and Commons both hit the woodwork in the same attack.

Coleman brought on Leon McKenzie for Eastwood at the interval and the former Norwich player seemed to relish the opportunity to play through the centre.

He won a constant string of headers and linked well with Clinton Morrison.

He did enough for Coleman to hint that he may well keep his place.

Michael Doyle gave the Sky Blues real hope when he turned in a cross from Morrison six minutes after the restart but, despite a much improved showing, Coventry could not quite do enough to exploit Derby's brittle nerves.
