COLD WAR MUSEUM FOR THE MIDLANDS.


WORK is to start on a museum in the Midlands dedicated solely to the Cold War.

, the Cuban Missile Crisis, surveillance techniques, missiles and the space race. It will also chart the rise in popular culture during the post-World War Two period.

Construction on the pounds 13 million project - a joint initiative between the RAF and Bridgnorth District Council - is expected to start in the next few weeks.

The museum - the first in Britain to be solely dedicated to the Cold War - is expected to be open for visitors by December 2006.

RAF museum The Royal Air Force Museum (RAF Museum) is a museum dedicated to the history of aviation, and the British Royal Air Force in particular.

The museum is spread over two sites in England;
  • The RAF Museum London at Colindale (Hendon) in north London
 director general, Dr Michael Fopp, said: 'The approval of the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford development is great news for the museum and the West Midlands.'
