COL. OLINGER TAKES OVER AFOTEC COMMAND DEPARTING PETERS ASSIGNED TO N.M. DAILY NEWS.EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE Edwards Air Force Base, U.S. military installation, 301,000 acres (121,805 hectares), S Calif., NE of Lancaster; est. 1933. It is one of the largest air force bases in the United States and has the world's longest runway. - The Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center Located at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico, the Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center is a direct reporting unit of Headquarters, United States Air Force. Employing approximately 1,100 military, civilian and contractor personnel divided into six detachments among Detachment 5 has changed commanders. AFOTEC AFOTEC Air Force Operational Test & Evaluation Center commander Maj. Gen. Ken Peck presided over a June 21 ceremony at which Col. Michael S. Peters relinquished command of Detachment 5 to Col. Jeffrey J. Olinger. Peters has been assigned to the National Assessment Group at Kirtland Air Force Base Kirtland Air Force Base is located in the southeast quadrant of Albuquerque, New Mexico, adjacent to the Albuquerque International Sunport. The base is the third largest installation in Air Force Materiel Command, covering 51,558 acres (209 km²) and employing over 23,000 people, , N.M. Olinger was the director of the Air and Space Mission Directorate at the Operational Test and Evaluation (testing) operational test and evaluation - (OT&E) Formal testing conducted prior to deployment to evaluate the operational effectiveness and suitability of the system with respect to its mission. Center Headquarters at Kirtland. Olinger will be responsible for the operational testing of aircraft and aircraft systems at Edwards as well as six other locations. The Operational Test and Evaluation Center is responsible for testing, under operationally realistic conditions, new systems being developed for Air Force and multiservice use.
