COKE DEATH RISE; NEW PAIN FOR KATY FRENCH'S FAMILY.Byline: By GEORGINA O'HALLORAN COCAINE was a factor in almost a third of all drug-related inquests heard in Dublin last year, figures revealed yesterday. They showed that the drug played a part in 28 of 87 drug deaths investigated by coroner's courts. Dublin City Coroner Dr Brian Farrell said: "It is an unpredictable drug and its toxic effects are not dose related." Heroin accounted for 14 drug-related deaths and was cited as a factor in a further 12 while methadone methadone (mĕth`ədōn', –dŏn'), synthetic narcotic similar in effect to morphine. Synthesized in Germany, it came into clinical use after World War II. It is sometimes used as an analgesic and to suppress the cough reflex. was behind 12 tragedies.
