BRIAN CODY Brian Cody (born 1954) is an Irish hurling manager and former player, currently in his ninth season as manager of the Kilkenny senior inter-county team. He played hurling with his local club James Stephens and with the Kilkenny senior inter-county team in the 1970s and 1980s. has described Justin McCarthy's removal as Waterford manager last year as "rough justice". Writing in his newly released autobiography, Cody, with Martin Breheny, the Kilkenny boss outlined his sympathy for McCarthy's plight after player power saw him removed following a heavy defeat to Clare in the Munster Championship last year. Under Davy Fitzgerald David 'Davy' FitzGerald (born 2 August, 1971) is an Irish sportsman. He plays hurling with his local club Sixmilebridge and with the Clare senior inter-county team. He is the current goalkeeper for "the bridge" team but, due to a controversial row with manager Tony Considine, he , Waterford regrouped to reach the All-Ireland final only to be annihilated by Cody's side, who completed the three in a row with a stunning 23-point victory. "Other than patrolling the same sideline and meeting him at the launch of the Allianz Leagues or some other function, I wouldn't have encountered him very much," writes Cody of the Cork native. "I would have huge respect for him, though, and felt he got rough justice in Waterford last year. "I have a policy of keeping my nose out of other counties' affairs but I would have sympathy for Justin, on a personal basis, because what happened wasn't nice. "He had done a hell of a lot for Waterford - even the players who eventually wanted him out admitted that - so it was sad to see his term come to such an abrupt and controversial end. "It goes to show that you never know what the future holds. Justin wasn't the first manager who resigned or was forced out in mid-season and he won't be the last. "Times really have changed in the GAA, but that's the way of the world nowadays. "It must have been strange for him watching Waterford recover so quickly and make it to the All-Ireland final. "I have no idea how he felt on All-Ireland final day, but then I've never managed outside my own county. "The Village (James Stephens) and Kilkenny are all I know, and all I want to know for that matter."
