COCA-COLA RETURNS TO SAUDI ARABIA Products launched -- first step towards soft drink leadership

ATLANTA, Jan. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The Coca-Cola Company (NYSE: KO), the

world's leading soft drink company, today announced the launch of its products in Saudi Arabia, the first step in its plan to take soft drink leadership in this important Middle East market.
While Coca-Cola has been imported in limited quantities since 1989, this is the first time that products of The Coca-Cola Company will be produced and nationally available in Saudi Arabia in 25 years.
The Company's products will be produced and marketed by The Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Saudi Arabia, which will be managed by the Olayan Group of companies in Saudi Arabia.
"This launch is the first step in our strategy to make Coca-Cola available to consumers throughout Saudi Arabia," said E. Neville Isdell, president, Northeast Europe/Middle East Group, The Coca-Cola Company, while addressing the sales force at the new plant in Dammam and in Riyadh. Congratulating the Olayan Group on the successful launch and the high quality of the facilities and staff, he added, "We are confident that by serving this important market with the dedication characteristic of our worldwide business, Coca-Cola will become Saudi Arabia's favorite soft drink, as it has in most of the 185 countries in which we do business."
Coca-Cola, diet Coke, Fanta and Sprite initially will be produced in cans and post-mix at a new state-of-the-art facility in Dammam, in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. Coca-Cola also will be available in non-refillable glass bottles.
A fleet of more than 200 trucks, operating out of a network of three main regional sales centers and five satellite distribution depots, will distribute product directly to retail customers. Additional facilities will be built to meet demand.
"We look forward to making Coca-Cola available to every consumer in our country and intend to move aggressively to bring Coca-Cola to the leadership position it enjoys wherever it operates," sand Khalid Olayan, chairman of the Olayan Saudi Holding Company.
The Coca-Cola Company has four times the international market share of its nearest competitor. Through the world's largest production and distribution system, the Company's products are consumed in more than 185 countries at a rate of more than 668 million servings each day.
