COCA-COLA AND THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE TEAM UP FOR 'MONSTEROUS' FALL PROMOTION

 Interactive Game Links Consumers With NFL Stars, Offers
 Millions of Prizes Including 10 Trips to Super Bowl XXVIII
 ATLANTA, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Leaves aren't the only things that will change this fall as 29 of the National Football League's top players are transformed into beasts, ghosts and phantoms through Coca-Cola "Monsters of the Gridiron."
 The fall promotion, which runs from Sept. 26 through Halloween, combines America's number one sport with the country's most popular soft drink in an effort that is sure to leave football fans "trance-fixed" to their favorite games.
 Through the promotion, specially marked multi-packs and 16-ounce, 20- ounce and two-liter bottles of Coca-Cola products will contain a special "Monster Code" number in-pack or under-the-crown. Localized radio and television advertisements and point-of-sale materials featuring a local market NFL player/monster will urge consumers to call the toll-free Sprint "Monster Line" (1-800-GRIDIRON) to learn if they have won a prize.
 Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Randall Cunningham leads an all-star roster of players from each of the 28 NFL teams in a metamorphosis that accentuates each player's most notorious on-field personality traits (see attached player list). Cunningham, known for his speed and scrambling ability, is the "Rocket Man."
 "Monsters of the Gridiron leverages The Coca-Cola Company's five- year worldwide sponsorship agreement as exclusive soft drink of the NFL and its 28 teams by bringing the power of the NFL brand to retailers and great NFL prizes to consumers," said Pierre Ferrari, senior vice president, Marketing, Coca-Cola USA. "Local executions in each NFL market make the promotion more relevant to consumers and encourage fans to demonstrate their team 'spirit' for their local Monster."
 Monsters of the Gridiron will be supported during NFL game telecasts by national television advertisements featuring Randall Cunningham and players participating in the selected national network/cable games. In addition, television spots featuring Cunningham and a local market player will air during game telecasts in each local market. Radio spots featuring local market players also will be used.
 Spanish-language television and radio spots featuring Dallas Cowboys lineman Tony Casillas as Conde (Count) Casillas will provide program details to Spanish-speaking consumers.
 The promotion will be supported in store by eye-catching point-of- sale displays including larger-than-lifesize stand-ups of each monster, as well as monster-specific banners, truckbacks, pole signs and ceiling danglers.
 In addition, the promotion will be featured in an hour-long NFL Films special that will air in national syndication in October.
 "Coca-Col ?history with the NFL and we are excited to continue that relationship with 'Monsters of the Gridiron,'" said Brian Hughes, vice president, corporate sponsorships, NFL Properties, Inc. "NFL football appeals to more people than any other sport and this promotion adds a whole new element of excitement, especially among younger fans."
 When consumers call the Monster Line, their area code activates a recording of the local NFL player assigned to that area. The player then asks consumers to punch in their "Monster Code" number. Once the code has been keyed in, the player's voice becomes monstrous and tells the caller if they have won a prize or enters the caller in a second- chance drawing. In certain area codes, consumers can choose to hear the message in Spanish or English.
 Monsters of the Gridiron prizes are anything but horrifying. Ten grand prize winners will be awarded trips for two to Super Bowl XXVIII and one year of free long distance calls from Sprint. More than 11 million other prizes, including footballs autographed by Monsters of the Gridiron players, NFL team jackets, Randall Cunningham posters, "Monster Cards" good for five free minutes of long distance calls from Sprint and coupons for Coca-Cola products also will be available.
 In addition, a limited number of multi-packs will contain a Monsters of the Gridiron T-shirt inserted in a specially marked can.
 Consumers who call the Monster Line and do not win a prize will automatically be entered in a second-chance sweepstakes for one of 1,000 Sega Sports Packs with Game Gear, plus two game cartridges.
 The real-life Monsters of the Gridiron underwent several hours ofx?tensive make-up and costuming to get into character. New York Jets safety Ronnie Lott -- known for his "stinging" hits on the field -- became the "Rattler," and the San Francisco 49ers' bruising fullback Tom Rathman evolved into "Psycho."
 Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith particularly enjoyed his transformation into the "Lone Star Sheriff." "This is a uniform that I would love to wear on the football field," he said.
 Monsters of the Gridiron costumes range from a fur-sprouting, clawed and fanged "Attack Cat" of Kansas City's Derrick Thomas to the black medieval armour of the "Night Raider" -- Pittsburgh's Neil O'Donnell.
 Consumers can play Monsters of the Gridiron by purchasing specially marked packages of Coca-Cola classic, caffeine-free Coca-Cola classic, diet Coke, caffeine-free diet Coke, Sprite, diet Sprite, Mello Yello, cherry Coke and Mr. Pibb.
 Coca-Cola is the official soft drink of the NFL and its 28 teams.
