COC FOOTBALL UNDER INVESTIGATION.

College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  has launched an internal investigation into the school's football program amid allegations of illegal recruiting.

``Dr. Van Hook is in a fact-finding mode,'' COC See chip on chip.  spokeswoman Sue Bozman said on behalf of Van Hook, who is on vacation. ``Our college takes responsibility in recruiting very seriously. We have 16 sports with hundreds of athletes, and it's within our interest to be sure everyone is playing by the same rules. Dr. Van Hook will follow through and take whatever action she feels is appropriate, whether there's a formal complaint or not.''

AVC football coach Brent Carder said three assistants saw Lyon and Criner on the field talking to players. Carder said he is finishing the formal complaint that will be filed by Friday.

Lyon, who guided the Cougars to a 7-4 record and a bowl berth in their first season in 17 years, said he was fishing in the Eastern Sierra Nevadas and wasn't at the game.

Criner said he was at the game but declined comment.
