COC EVENT TO REVEAL TRUE MEANING OF JAZZ.

VALENCIA - If you're into jazz, plan tospend all day Saturday at College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  for the R.K. Downs Invitational Jazz Festival.

From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., eight local jazz bands will descend on the campus, 26455 N. Rockwell Canyon Road in Valencia, and the public is invited to enjoy the smooth sounds in the campus dining room for a $5 donation.

Opening this day of music will be the Saugus High School Saugus High School may refer to:
  • Saugus High School (California)
  • Saugus High School (Massachusetts)
 jazz ensemble under the direction of Robert Gibson.

At 11:45 a.m., Canyon High School's two jazz ensembles will provide back-to-back performances for 30 minutes each, both under the direction of Randy Gilpin.

Hart High School's jazz band will perform at 12:45 p.m., led by musical directors Robert Wulfersbeger and John Roberts.

They will be followed at 1:30 p.m. by COC's Nonet no·net

1. A combination of nine instruments or voices.

2. A composition written for such a combination.

, directed by Dirk Fischer, and at 2:15 p.m. by Valencia High School's jazz band, directed by Robert Babko.

Fischer will present the COC See chip on chip.  Studio Jazz Ensemble at 3 p.m. and the performances for the day will conclude with the California Institute of the Arts California Institute of the Arts
 known as CalArts

U.S. private institution of higher learning in Valencia. Created in 1961 through the merger of two other art institutes, it was the first in the U.S.
 Latin Jazz Ensemble taking the stage at 3:45 p.m. under the direction of David Roitstein.
