According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  football teams.

The first game featured a Cougars team that could do little right and established several dubious program records while losing. The next game, the sloppiness disappeared. The once highly-touted offense worked in sync despite a quarterback making his first start. The Cougars began to look like a team capable of defending their Western State Conference title as it won the conference opener.

Which version of the Cougars (1-1) shows up for tonight's home opener will be a good indication of which direction COC See chip on chip.  is really headed in the WSC WSC Winter Symposium on Chemometrics

One derivation of the surname is from the Scottish Highland word caol, 'channel', or 'strait'. There are other possible derivations (see below).
Bauer, who is scheduled to start for the second week in a row. ``We're a really good team when we come out and execute. We didn't make many mistakes last week. I remember watching the film from the week before and we weren't executing. I think that was the main difference last week, just being able to execute.''

Another difference was Bauer.

The freshman from Valencia High got his first start against Harbor because of a broken wrist suffered by original starter Jason Winn. Bauer completed 17 of 28 passes for 287 yards and four touchdowns in the 44-20 victory that earned him conference player of the week honors.

``I was a little nervous at first,'' Bauer said. ``I started off a little shaky, but I calmed down. I knew if I could just come out and have a chance, I could prove myself.''

This time, he'll have to prove himself against a defense that is one of the conference's best at stopping the pass. COC ranks third in the WSC with an average of 220.5 passing yards a game, but Southwest ranks second in pass defense, allowing an average of 119.3 yards a game.

The Southwest defense is led by freshman defensive backs Justin Cooper Justin Cooper (born November 17, 1988) is an American child actor who had his motion picture debut in the comedy Liar Liar, playing the son of noted actor Jim Carrey.  and Jimmie Burton, who have a combined five interceptions. Cooper made three interceptions for 93 yards and a touchdown in last week's 20-12 victory over West L.A. to also earn conference player of the week honors.

Southwest's offense is not nearly as solid. The primary threat is running back Amir Rahman, who has 133 yards and three touchdowns on 35 carries.

``We should be fine as long as we can execute and not hurt ourselves,'' Bauer said.
