COASTAL CALLS 11-1/4 PERCENT SENIOR NOTES FOR REDEMPTION

 HOUSTON, April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The Coastal Corporation (NYSE: CGP) has given notice today to Continental Bank, N.A. (formerly Continental Illinois National Bank and Trust Company of Chicago) to call for redemption, on June 15, 1993, the company's 11-1/4 percent senior notes, due June 15, 1996, of which $500 million in principal amount are outstanding. Continental Bank, N.A. is Indenture Trustee, Registrar and Paying Agent for the notes.
 Formal notice of redemption will be sent by the Trustee to the holders of the notes. The notes will be redeemed at par at the office of the Trustee, 231 South LaSalle St., (Corporate Trust Department - 19th floor), Chicago, Ill., 60697.
 The Coastal Corporation is a Houston-based holding company. Coastal has consolidated assets of more than $10 billion and subsidiary operations in natural gas marketing, transmission and storage, oil and gas exploration and production, refining and marketing, coal, chemicals, trucking and independent power production.
