COAL KILLERS hit again.CLEVELAND--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 6, 1995--For its work converting the Ashtabula Ashtabula (ăsh'təby `lə), city (1990 pop. 21,633), Ashtabula co., NE Ohio, on Lake Erie at the mouth of the Ashtabula River; settled c.1801 by New Englanders, inc. (Ohio) Uniroyal Chemical Division Plant from coal to gas-fired steam, CEC (Central Electronic Complex) The set of hardware that defines a mainframe, which includes the CPU(s), memory, channels, controllers and power supplies included in the box. Some CECs, such as IBM's Multiprise 2000 and 3000, include data storage devices as well. Consultants Inc. (CEC), a Cleveland engineering and energy management company, has been named East Ohio Gas Company's (EOG EOG electro-olfactogram. EOG abbr. electro-oculography EOG electro-oculogram; electro-olfactogram. EOG Electrooculogram, see there ) ``Partners in Quality'' for 1994. John R. Puskar, PE, CEC's founder and president, said CEC was recognized for showing Uniroyal the overall benefits of gas-fired steam as well as for performing feasibility work on the coal-to-gas conversion. With CEC's assistance, Uniroyal plant managers received corporate approval to install a new-technology, very-efficient, tangentially-fired gas boiler boiler, device for generating steam. It consists of two principal parts: the furnace, which provides heat, usually by burning a fuel, and the boiler proper, a device in which the heat changes water into steam. that emits substantially reduced levels of nitrous oxide nitrous oxide or nitrogen (I) oxide, chemical compound, N2O, a colorless gas with a sweetish taste and odor. Its density is 1.977 grams per liter at STP. It is soluble in water, alcohol, ether, and other solvents. (NOx). NOx combines with organic compounds in the presence of sunlight to create ozone-depleting chemicals. Puskar said the Uniroyal conversion, soon to be in operation, is expected to pay for itself in less than four years from energy- and coal-related operating cost expenses. As well as working on energy- and water-saving projects with smaller and less well-known firms, CEC Consultants have also worked with Ford Motor Co. to convert their Walton Hills At 316 metres, Walton Hill is the highest point in the range of hills in Worcestershire known as the Clent Hills. It is the highest point for 21 miles in all directions, and as such commands an excellent panorama. Stamping Plant and several other plants from coal to gas firing. Referring to his company as the ``coal killers,'' Puskar explained that coal is cheaper per thousand pounds of steam generated, but environmental, delivery, storage, labor, handling, clean-up, and maintenance costs often make gas less expensive overall. However, plants with aging coal-fired boilers and large central steam systems often lack gas piping and control systems. ``Frequently, this infrastructure has to be retrofit ret·ro·fit v. ret·ro·fit·ted or ret·ro·fit, ret·ro·fit·ting, ret·ro·fits v.tr. 1. To provide (a jet, automobile, computer, or factory, for example) with parts, devices, or equipment not in in novel and creative ways,'' Puskar said. ``The manufacturer also faces the choice of maintaining a central boiler with plant-wide distribution or changing to `point-of-use' systems.'' The East Ohio Gas program recognizes those who have done outstanding work in demonstrating the merits of natural gas during the previous year. CONTACT: CEC Consultants Inc., Cleveland John R.
